DIY BABY WIPES

About

While store-bought baby wipes are convenient, they also have a lot of downsides. For one, they’re filled with harmful chemicals. Over time, they get expensive, and they’re also unsustainable.

Ingredients

Directions

There’s a couple of different ways to use this concoction:

  1. Buy cloth baby wipes and either soak them with the liquid and store in a container, or add the liquid to a spray bottle and spray on the material as needed.
  2. Buy your own chosen material and sew your own wipes in a 9×9 inch square, and either soak them with the liquid and store in a container, or add the liquid to a spray bottle, and spray on the material as needed.
  3. Cut a roll of paper towels in half and place in a reusable container, soak with the liquid and allow to absorb for 5-10 minutes. (This is a less sustainable option because of the paper towels, but if you’re in need of something that you can throw away without the fuss of storing and washing, this is still a better option than store-bought.)

For convenience, you can make or buy a wet bag to store used/need to be laundered wipes for when you’re out and about!

DIAPER CREAM

About

I have made this and used this, and it is AMAZING! We’ve used this as diaper cream on our niece’s bum the few times she started to develop a rash and using this (and a little bit of air-time) got rid of her rash in a few days. It’s not just for diaper rash, though! You can use it safely on your little one for anything you would use Neosporin for! And it’s not just for babies: My husband got a cut on his hand and, I kid you not, he said the pain went away almost instantaneously and it healed within 2-3 days. I also use this any time I have any kind of issue with my skin, and I’m all about it. And how great is it that every single ingredient is found in nature? I mean, so much joy over here!

Directions

  1. Over low heat in a double boiler, combine the coconut oil and olive oil until melted. If you don’t have a double boiler, you can use a large glass or metal bowl set over a pot of boiling water.
  2. Keeping the heat on low, add the dried lavender and calendula and allow the herbs to infuse for 30 minutes.
  3. Prepare a small bowl with a coffee filter or cheesecloth, and pour the mixture through the filter to strain out the herbs, letting the infused oil drip into the bowl below.
  4. Return the infused oil to the double boiler (be sure to clean out any remaining dried herbs). Over low heat, add the beeswax, stirring until melted. Take off from heat and allow to cool slightly.
  5. Add the honey (if using) and the essential oils. Combine.
  6. Pour the mixture into one large jar or two small jars. The mixture will begin to solidify. If you’re using honey, stir every minute or two, otherwise the honey will settle at the bottom of the jar. The mixture takes about 5-10 minutes to fully set. Once set, it’s ready to use and will keep for 12 months at room temperature.
